Playing Hunt the Signpost

InkCapThe Ashurst Village Walk on Saturday September 26th took us in a circuit from the Lyndhurst Road end of Woodlands Road.  We took forest paths past Costicles Pond, and down to the Woodlands Road T-junction.  Thence a series of field paths and bridleways to Rossiters Lane, where we met Woodlands Road again just below The Gamekeeper.  Another set of field paths took us across to Fletchwood Lane, which led us back towards the starting point.

HossOn the way, we encountered various obstacles, including a wide variety of stiles, overgrown paths (one only made passable by some recent vigorous pruning), a rather risky plank bridge, a hidden signpost and the expected quantity of mud.  There was an electric fence protecting one section of the path from the neighbouring horses, but only one of us found this shocking.  (Okay, it was me.)

Despite the hazards it was an excellent walk on a beautiful clear day, with fungi at our feet, blackberries and sloes in the hedges and the occasional horse sniffing our pockets for treats.
